The roadmap version 3.0 was published July 17, 2023 by America Makes & ANSI (developed by AMSC). The hope is that the roadmap will be broadly adopted by the user community to facilitate a more coordinated approach to the future development of AM standards.
What it is:
Key Findings:
It is recommended to use the PDF Roadmap and the gaps Excel files together as a single resource. The Excel file allows you to filter gaps by keywords and metadata, after which users can refer to the full PDF Roadmap to obtain background information and related standards activities.
The AMSC roadmap describes 141 gaps where no published standard currently exists to respond to a particular industry need. When an organization initiates or completes research, standards or conformity assessment activities in a specific area identified in one of those gaps, an update is captured in the Gaps Progress Report. The current report was published in April 2026 and the next report is expected in September 2026.
ANSI is developing a standards landscape to increase awareness about published and in-development standards, codes, guidance, and related conformity assessment materials. The landscape will include various metadata about the document status and associated technical pillars. The landscape will be developed through direct contributions from ANSI’s Request for Information and ongoing technical events.
